The Art of Caring
We have purposely designed our facility to be intimate with a strong resident-to-caring-staff ratio.
There is a Licensed Practical Nurse on staff every hour of every day.
All clinical staff members who have contact with our residents have had Direct Care Training in caring for the elderly or they are State Certified Nursing Assistants.
All clinical staff members are certified in first aid and CPR.
All Medication Aides have completed the Board of Nursing Approved Curriculum.
For all Harbourway's beauty, our mission is to care and we have taken all the steps necessary to ensure that we do it exceptionally well.

Eden directs all day-to-day operations of the Atlantic Shores Retirement Community – a 100-acre campus in Virginia Beach, Virginia, featuring a 50-bed skilled nursing facility, 54 apartment home assisted living facility, a 14-bed Memory Care unit, and over 400 independent living units, ranging from apartment homes to freestanding villa homes.
Since 1999, her team-based budgeting and strategic planning initiatives have allowed the cooperative to offset inflationary increases through operating efficiencies and new business growth enterprises.
In addition to growing annual revenue and managing related expenses, debt service and capital reserves, Eden has implemented customer service, employee morale, mentoring and effective management programs. Her financial negotiation and planning skills are propelling the facility for future growth; including in 2004, a multi-million dollar refinancing and debt restructure to create an additional 54 assisted living units. Prior to her current position, Eden served as Financial Analyst, Cryogenic Operations at Taylor-Wharton, where she was responsible for the preparation of financial statements for seven plants located in five different countries.
Eden’s talents were also tapped by The Fox Family Channel, where she served as Network Accountant - - establishing accounting records and procedures for executive management’s new ventures, including all subsidiaries and investments. She holds a BA in Economics from Indiana University, and an MBA in Management Accounting from Old Dominion University. A professional CPA, Eden is an active member of American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and the Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants.

Marie Oberwetter serves as Assistant General Manager for the Atlantic Shores Retirement Community – a 100-acre campus in Virginia Beach, Virginia, containing a 50-bed skilled nursing facility, 54 apartment home assisted living facility, a 14 bed memory unit, and over 400 independent living units.
In this position, Marie has played a key role in the development of the facility’s assisted living unit, increasing the medical coverage in The Wellness Center, and developing an in-house program for personal nursing assistance delivered in the comfort of resident’s apartments.
Her latest and most exciting accomplishment has been the development of the beautiful new Harbourway Assisted Living building, in collaboration with the Assisted Living Administrator.
Marie’s background includes an extensive range of health care -- working as a Registered Nurse in Critical Care in many settings to include the military, Veterans Hospital, and teaching hospitals throughout the country. Marie spent time in the Air Force and Army Nurse’s Corps, serving in Desert Storm and a humanitarian mission in Honduras.
She returned to school to obtain a Masters Degree in Administration of Long Term Facilities at the University of North Texas. She was very fortunate to work with the founders of long-term education and research.
After completing an Administrator in Training course in Florida, Marie was assigned to a Chicago retirement community that offered retirement apartments, skilled nursing, and an Alzheimer’s unit. Her love of this field led her to her next assignment -- to Virginia Beach and the Atlantic Shores Retirement Community.
